Article Subject: How to make your blog posts interesting, inviting & exciting
Suggested Meta Description: A brief introductory guide to ensuring that your blog post is interesting, inviting and exciting.
How to Make Your Blog Posts Interesting, Inviting & Exciting
Blogging is a great way to bring traffic to your site and engage with the public. But only if your posts aren’t boring. To make sure that people want to read your blog, try out these tips.
Build Interest
You can make a blog post more interesting by telling a story. Make your post transformative.
Storytelling has been around for as long as civilization, maybe longer. And there is a good reason for that. It works.
Everyone enjoys a good story making it a great way to embed your message. Anyone who grew up watching Disney movies can attest to this.
Try this simple formula. Introduce the protagonist. Present an obstacle. Then, explain how the protagonist overcame the obstacle. Finish up by explaining what they learned.
Most of the time you will write blog posts in the first person, so you will usually be the protagonist.
Have a Conversation
Writing in the first person also feels more like a discussion. Saying “I” and “you” engages the reader because it sounds like you are addressing them directly.
Readers will be more interested in your post if they feel like it is about them.
Try to be as specific and clear as you can with your subject. This lets your reader know that they are reading useful information. Talk about the details.
If you talk about cars, mention the make and model. If you talk about a software program, name the exact program. Mention the details that someone with first-hand experience would have.
If you write generically, you are more likely to lose your reader’s interest.
You don’t have to be an expert on a subject before you can write about it though.
Your post can be about your learning experience as you try something new. There are plenty of potential people out there who would be interested in reading about it.
Make it Inviting
To make your post inviting, keep your paragraphs short. Don’t scare off your readers with a wall of text. 1-3 sentences are a good length to aim for.
This is not what most of us learned in school but writing for the web is different from writing for print. A blog needs a lot of white space.
Most people will read your post on their phone. What looks good on a desktop PC may be too hard to read on a smartphone or tablet.
A blog needs a lot of white space to make sure it is legible and easy to read on a variety of devices.
If you are writing more than a few hundred words, break your post up into smaller sections.
Give each section a subheading. That way your readers can scan through the post and get the gist of it.
They are far more likely to invest the time to read your post if they know what it’s about.
Generate Excitement
To make your post exciting, try using foreshadowing. Let the reader know what to expect by giving a few clues at the start of your post.
Here’s a great trick that marketers and copywriters use. Make a big promise upfront. Then reveal it a piece at a time. This will hook your reader and keep them reading until the end.
Don’t reveal all your points upfront, tease a little. Your readers are far more likely to make it to the end of a post if they are expecting a payoff.
You can amplify this technique by employing cliffhangers at the end of each paragraph. The last sentence of a paragraph should bleed into the first sentence of the next paragraph.
Think of the way television serials would end each episode with the hero in danger. You had to tune in next week to see what would happen.
Do the same thing with your paragraphs. It makes your post exciting and keeps your reader engaged for longer. They don’t have a clear spot where they can stop reading until they reach the end.
Encourage Discussion
Now that you’ve got your reader hooked, don’t let them go yet. Get them involved in the discussion by encouraging them to leave a comment.
Blog comments have become a way to build backlinks and gain traffic. But their original purpose is for readers to give their opinion to the author, and to other readers.
Readers will be much more engaged with a post if they feel that they are taking part. Your post is also more likely to go viral if it has a lot of activity in the comment section.
Readers’ comments give you valuable feedback. Use them to make your future posts more engaging as well.
